About The Ensemble

The Sacramento Symphonic Winds is a fully instrumented concert wind and percussion ensemble of volunteer musicians. The band accepts candidates for audition when there is an open chair. We have musicians who have returned to playing their instrument after years of refrain and now play for the joy of being a part of our group. There are also student musicians who play with the group for the learning experience. Rehearsals are held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday evenings at El Camino High School, located at Eastern Ave. and El Camino Ave. in Sacramento. Musicians are invited to apply for membership by contacting the band using the contact information listed below.

Community Support

The ensemble incurs many costs throughout a concert season, including the costs of maintaining its music library, setting-up various concert sites, printing programs and posters--these to cite just a few. These costs are paid by monies gathered by donations from the local community, by concert sponsors, and occasionally by band members. If you would like to support the band with a direct donation, please contact us. And, please, know that we greatly appreciate your donation:

From the Board

Thank you for taking a few minutes to view the pages of our Web Site designed by one of our alto sax players, Scott Hedrick. Because the area is so large and the performing interest so great, there is a parent organization called the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association which oversees the Amador County Community Band, Auburn Concert Band, Capitol Pops Concert Band, River City Concert Band, Sacramento Concert Band, and the Sacramento Symphonic Winds. I encourage you to follow the links to the other community band sites and support organizations.

Each SSW player in our band has specific and personal reasons for belonging, ranging from exciting world wide travel opportunities to becoming an important part of a quality performance ensemble. No matter what our individual reasons are, however, we all share the magic of making music.

Please attend our concerts. An important SSW continuing goal is to increase our audience size, and to provide a positive impact upon our community. You will recognize music that is on the shelves of every band's library which have become familiar audience pleasers, and you may also hear new compositions by today's academic composers pushing the limits of instrumental technique. But no matter the genre, each piece we begin in rehearsal and finish at a concert becomes a musical journey.
