George learned chords when he got a ukulele for his seventh birthday and at various times has played violin, guitar, tympani, French horn, euphonium, tuba, piano, and organ, as well as sung in college glee clubs and church choirs. He has played euphonium for over 50 years with a brief hiatus in the 1960s during graduate studies for his PhD in chemical engineering. George has been an active member of the River City Concert Band and the Sacramento Symphonic Winds since 2002, and is a founding member of the Heavy Metal and Golden Tuba Four tuba quartets, the Raspberry Jam Band, and the Toot Sweet Brass Co. quintet. Dr. Preston is a retired energy R&D executive and candy manufacturer. A Californian since 1960, he has two adult sons and lives in Auburn with his musician
wife Mary Rose, two cats and numerous turtles.
